Going Home

Discharge

Our nursing staff will review your post-operative instructions with you and provide you with a written copy of these instructions. They will also give you any prescriptions your surgeon has written for you.

As stated previously, you are not permitted to drive yourself home, nor should you take a taxi or ride a bus alone.

Making plans before surgery is the key to a safe recovery period. Plan to have someone stay with you for 24 hours after you return home. No matter how well you feel, someone should be available in case you need help.

Once you are home, please report any problems to your surgeon right away.

Follow Up

The day after your surgery, a nurse will call you to ask you about your pain control, your ability to eat and drink, and the condition of your IV and surgical site. All of this information lets the nurse know how you are recovering and alerts us to any needs you may have. The nurse will also answer any questions you may have.

We are pleased that you chose Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center. We wish you a comfortable and speedy recovery.
