Our specially trained neonatal care professionals utilize the latest technological advances to deliver expert diagnosis and treatment. Our NICU is staffed 24 hours a day by highly specialized neonatal care nurses and doctors who are focused on the needs of newborns and parents. The NICU provides care for:
- Premature infants
- Birth defects and genetic syndromes
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Infections or sepsis
- Kidney disorders
- Major neonatal surgical needs
- Respiratory disorders
Our level III NICU, which allows us to care for infants born at 32 weeks gestation and under, is designed to meet the needs of premature and sick full term babies. This nursery is staffed by neonatologists (pediatricians who are experts in newborn intensive care) and our highly skilled nursing staff. Our team of nurses and physicians offers a unique blend of technology, experience and compassion that provides an individual approach to managing the health and growth of your newborn. We are also equipped with a Rooming-In Room so that you can stay overnight with your baby near the day of discharge for additional teaching and support.
And as the only full service hospital in Lancaster County with a Level III NICU, rest assured that Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center offers the following:
- 24/7 in-house OBGYN Physicians
- 24/7 in-house Midwives
- 24/7 in-house Neonatologists
- 24/7 in-house Anesthesiologists

Being the only full service hospital in Lancaster County with a Level 3 NICU is an important distinction. It means that if a complication arises, quick access to a complete range of specialists and emergency services is available in the same facility, reducing the need to transfer patients to another hospital for a higher level of care. This also means that mother and baby are not separated any longer than necessary.
Our classes and programs for expectant and new parents will help you learn more about childbirth your new baby.
