Our commitment to the community and your education is based on our historic osteopathic education and teaching program.

LANCASTER OSTEOPATHIC FOUNDATION

Our former facility, Community Hospital of Lancaster, was the dominant provider for Osteopathic Medicine in Lancaster since its founding in 1927. In 1999 the Hospital was purchased by Health Management Associates. With the purchase of the hospital the Lancaster Osteopathic Foundation was formed. The Foundation provides grants and is active with our educational programs.

Mission of the Lancaster Osteopathic Health Foundation

  • To represent the philosophy of osteopathic medicine to the Lancaster community in all work of the Foundation
  • To promote the practice of osteopathic medicine
  • To support the education of area healthcare professionals consistent with the osteopathic philosophy
  • To support programs which improve the health of Lancaster’s children
  • To teach, to heal and to serve

Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center is a 144 bed teaching facility with multi specialty and subspecialty curriculums. We serve the educational needs of medical students, traditional rotating internship and Family Practice track internship. We offer residency programs in Family Practice, Internal Medicine and Anesthesia.

The goal of each program is to develop a skillful and motivated physician by providing varied clinical experiences in the community and conducting regular academic conferences and lectures. Training in osteopathic diagnosis and treatment are prominent parts of our training program.

Each training program is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association and the PCOM MedNet. We welcome and encourage osteopathic physicians from across the country to participate in our training program. You will have the opportunity to observe many different cultures and their approach to medicine while at “The Heart.”

THE FACULTY

You will find our faculty is very dedicated to teaching. With a strong D.O. program in place for over half a century, you will find a complementary mix of old school and new school. You will work with full time attendings as well as faculty at two additional hospitals in the area. Learning experiences with private patients provides point of contact decision making opportunities. We intend to offer a continuous and broad range of learning situations, didactic, mentoring, and formalized teaching. At some point we’re sure you’ll find yourself in an impromptu discussion with faculty members over a cup of coffee.
