Joint Commission/Accreditation

Continued Excellence - Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center has been named one of the Joint Commission’s Top Performers in Key Measures

In addition to this honor Heart of Lancaster has consistently maintained a Gold Seal of Approval™ from The Joint Commission.

The Joint Commission, an independent health care accreditation organization, evaluates and accredits more than 16,000 hospitals and health care organizations from across the country based on standards such as patient treatment, patient rights and infection control. The Gold Seal of Approval designation demonstrates to the community that Heart of Lancaster meets or exceeds these quality and safety standards. The Joint Commission develops its standards in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts, purchasers, and consumers.

Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. To earn and maintain The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™, an organization must undergo an unannounced on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team at least every three years. In the past, when the surveys were announced/scheduled, anyone believing that he or she had pertinent and valid information about the hospital could request an interview with a Joint Commission surveyor. Because the Joint Commission's survey process is now totally unannounced, a pre-scheduled meeting with a surveyor to discuss patient concerns is no longer possible. The Joint Commission encourages the public to seek resolution of their concerns through the channels of hospital management by calling (717) 625-5670. If the concerns brought to the attention of the hospital are not satisfied, cannot be resolved, the individual may contact the Joint Commission:
