Residency Programs

RESIDENCY

Each resident’s curriculum is designed to develop strengths and correct any weaknesses. Residents have access to the most modern diagnostic and treatment options.

Our curriculum combines block rotations, conferences and longitudinal experiences to provide a well rounded education. Elective time is also available to gain additional experience in areas of special interest to you and relevant to your medical training. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that graduates of the program are board certified, and able to provide quality care in any practice setting. As a resident, leadership opportunities also exist.

Residency training at Heart of Lancaster is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association.  The residency provides the opportunity to learn family-centered care. Our residents learn how to recognize, evaluate and manage common and uncommon health care problems encountered in practice.  A large portion of your training will transpire at our family practice clinic.  Here you will encounter a patient panel presenting a wide variety of medical conditions.  It will be your responsibility to provide quality care to your patients.  You will find a supportive learning atmosphere that strives for excellence in patient care.  Our curriculum will serve as the foundation for developing the ambulatory skills necessary to be a competent board certified physician.

Program Overview

Residency training at Heart of Lancaster is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association.  The Department of Medicine features approximately 40 board-certified physicians dedicated to teaching residents in a variety of disciplines.  The objective of the Internal Medicine program at Heart of Lancaster is to foster clinical and academic excellence in physicians.  The residency training program places major emphasis on both inpatient and ambulatory settings.  Residents are trained as hospitalists.  Graduates of our program are highly qualified for the practice of internal medicine, or, for further training in internal medicine subspecialties.

The medical problems seen during your residency encompass all areas of internal medicine.  While common diseases predominate during the course of a resident’s experience, a full range of pathology is encountered in the community hospital setting.  The program offers the opportunity to care for such patients within the practice of every sub-specialty, as well as general medicine.    Independent, clinical decision-making by house staff members is emphasized on all rotations.
